2,000
Today went over 2,000 miles for the year (i.e. in 95 days so far). Am on 2036 miles in total, in just over 120 hours of cycling (i.e. averaging about 17mph). I'm averaging 21.43 miles per day although in reality I'm not going out every day, but usually cycling 20-30 mile training rides a few times a week with 50-60 mile longer rides thrown in when I have a chance. Also a few time trials, which I need to put up on the blog...

1,500
67 days so far this year, and I went past 1,500 miles cycled in 2014 today, hitting 1,508.73 miles - that's an average of 22.5 miles a day.

1000 miles in 47 days
Today's bike ride took me (well) over 1000 miles for 2014. I think this is the earliest I've reached this figure in my many years of cycling.

40,000
Out on my bike today, I passed 40,000 miles cycled in total since May 2003, across four bikes.
As a sign of where the decline in my cycling volume set in:
0-30,000 miles = May 2003 to September 2008
30-40,0000 miles = September 2008 to January 2014

2014
Since my last post I only managed 250 miles after an epic few months at work (now I live in Ipswich, I no longer get to cycle 20 miles a day into work, which has caused a drastic deterioration in physical condition!) Nonetheless, 50 of those miles were cycled on 29 and 31 December, and I'm starting the new year with some resolve to get back in the cycling habit. First, I need to have at least some fitness as in August I'm going to be riding the length of the western front to mark the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War. Second, I've just bought a new road bike (at a knock down price in the sales) to replace my old Trek. The Condor - while good for getting about on - never really proved a sporty enough replacement for the Trek and I'm hoping that a nimbler bike will encourage me to train harder for TTs.
Another, vaguer resolution is to try and interact more with like-minded cyclists online. I'd also like to try and at least make it down to West London a few times to see my club mates at the Willesden.
Miles cycled in 2013:
Cervelo: 761.1
Condor: 1395.1
Total: 2156.2
While this is nothing compared to my heyday, it's not bad. Hoping for something in the 3,000-4,000 mile range this year.

10,000
Not a huge amount of cycling since the end of June/start of July, sadly - despite the summer. First, busy at work; then my leave began and Maureen's parents arrived for a couple of great weeks in the UK; then a conference; then two weeks in Chicago. Hard life! No cycling in the US this year for a change, but lots of fast food...
Tonight, however, I had reason to cycle Ipswich-Shotley-Ipswich and the 20 miles pushed the odometer on my Condor road bike past 10,000 miles since I first rode it in January 2008.

A decade of cycling: 39045 miles
It is ten years to the day since I first fitted a cycle computer to my GT road bike. I was an undergraduate, living in Bounds Green, and at the beginning of my on/off obsession with cycling. Since that day, I have nearly cycled 40,000 miles on four different bikes:
25 May 2003-25 May 2013
Cycling mileage: 39045 miles in total
By bicycle:
GT ('retired'): 10300 miles
Trek (awaiting resurrection): 17801 miles
Condor: 9872 miles
Cervelo: 1072 miles
Averages:
3904.5 miles average per year (for 10 years)
75 miles average per week (for 520 weeks)
10.685 miles average per day (for 3654 days)
It should be borne in mind I was a much more active cyclist for the first five years of the past decade (perhaps owing to the fact I was a long term student!):
25 May 2003-25 May 2008: 27883 miles (5576 miles per year average)
25 May 2008-25 May 2013: 11162 miles (2232.4 miles per year average)
Miles cycled in 2013 so far: 1449 miles (just a mile away from a 10 mile a day average)
